Client:
London Borough of Croydon Council
Assignment:

To engage with the local community in Thornton Heath to help inform an overarching vision for the area as part of Croydon Council’s Strategic Regeneration Framework.

Timescale:
January – Nov 2020
Project Description:

With several key high streets under review, change is coming to Thornton Heath.

The means in partnership with Carver Haggard Architects were appointed in January 2020 by Croydon Council to provide services to help identify changes that the community wish to see in Thronton Heath. The findings of this process will form the basis of a speculative framework that will underpin the future masterplanning of key local sites and other potential sites yet to come forward.

A mixture of face-to-face, online and group workshops have been delivered with over 200 responses received. The early engagement identified key sites and themes including public realm improvements and ideas for pop-up/meanwhile uses.

In parallel to the engagement work, an Urban Design Analysis has been developed which considers opportunities for people to activate and make better use of spaces, enhancements of routes to create healthier streets and encourage sustainable travel. The analysis also explores opportunities to deliver new built development that enhances local character and introduces new and desired uses to the high street.

Upon completion, the Regeneration Framework will be published by Croydon Council to act as a blueprint for future masterplans.
