January 2020 – current
Project Description:

The means have been commissioned as the engagement consultants to undertake capacity building and community consultation in support of the redevelopment of the Broadwater Farm Estate in Haringey, led by Karakusevic Carson Architects. The redevelopment of the estate will entail a site-wide Urban Design Framework, a public realm strategy and developed designs for new housing on the site.

As part of our role, the creation of a Community Design Group (CDG) for the estate has been identified as a key step to providing a unified consultative group and is expected to make an important contribution to the evolution of the design proposals for the estate. The CDG will also be one of the fora that can advise and help refine the dissemination of information relating to the development and will be made up of representatives from a number of stakeholder groups on the site.

To ensure inclusivity and that the group is representative of the Estate, The means will be implementing a tailored approach to engagement. This includes consulting each of the stakeholder groups on a 1:1 basis and establishing a process by which representatives can be selected.

The project also seeks to deliver on a number of additional objectives, supporting wider placemaking principles and contributing to the positive regeneration of the estate. These include pilot projects for meanwhile uses to test ideas and initiatives, providing paid opportunities for local people and providing training for stakeholders to empower them to engage with the project. The design process will culminate with a resident ballot due to take place in 2021.
