To develop economic growth plans for three towns in rural Carmarthenshire.

1 year (August 2019 to September 2020)
Project Description:

The means have been commissioned by Carmarthenshire County Council (CCC) to develop an Economic Growth Plan across rural Carmarthenshire. The research is part-funded by the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2014-2020, which is funded by the Welsh Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, in addition to the County Council.

As part of the implementation of the Local Development Strategy, the Carmarthenshire Local Action Group is focussing its attention on supporting the development and growth of its strategic rural towns. The means are working with local stakeholders across three towns in the County as part of this study, these include Cwmaman, Llandeilo and Llandovery. This process involves engagement with a wide range of stakeholders from the community to identify issues and opportunities and to obtain input on how the area will develop and what needs to be done for the future economic well-being of the community. Throughout the engagement process, stakeholders with a potential interest in being part of Growth Plan Teams will be identified. These teams will play a key role in the evolution of the plans.

To support and inform a collective understanding of each place’s existing visual and physical qualities, a townscape appraisal will be conducted by The means to help inform future phases of the design work, including baseline evaluation. Findings from the research, baseline data and consultation will inform preferred growth plans for each town, which will then be developed into a comprehensive plan and that culminates in a formal launch of the plans in the local areas.
