Business Priorities for Transport in London

event-image_250

The Means recently hosted a roundtable discussion on London transport issues. The event-held in the Bankside Community Space-attracted over 20 attendees from a variety of organisations including London BIDs, local authorities, and area transport providers.

The event was kicked off with speeches from our distinguished panel of guest speakers:

  • Caroline Pidgeon AM (Chair of the London Assembly Transport Committee)
  • Richard Bourn (London Campaigner, Campaign for Better Transport)
  • Sue Terpilowski (Chairman, London Policy Unit,  Federation of Small Businesses)

Following these speeches, Means team member Paul Gehres gave a brief recap on the recent ‘London BIDs Travel Survey' undertaken by The Means.  He highlighted several important findings regarding the shared transport concerns of BIDs and the growing importance of strong relationships between BIDs, local authorities, and transport providers. (To view Paul's presentation, click presentation--bid_travel. To see the findings of the survey, click results--bids_travel_survey.)

The event was concluded with an open discussion between attendees and panellists.  A wide range of topics were discussed including TfL's service provision (e.g. Thames Clippers and the future of the Oyster card), the impact of funding cuts on London transport, and whether impact of major disruptions (like the Olympics and the Thames Tunnel construction) on London businesses can be minimised  (for more detailed meeting notes, please see the attachment below).

Said Means partner Giles Semper: 'We wanted to find out what businesses - and BIDs - want from transport providers in London. I thought all the speakers did us proud.'
