Client:
Vauxhall Employers Group/Vauxhall Regeneration Company
Assignment:
Mobilising businesses to play their part in regeneration
Timescale:
1997-1999
Project
Description:
At the same time as serving as Executive Director of Vauxhall St Peter's Heritage Centre , Giles Semper served as Company Secretary & Co-ordinator of the Vauxhall Employers Group (VEG) and a board member of the business-led Single Regeneration Budget (SRB) funded Vauxhall Regeneration Company (VRC).
In the face of what was believed to be the most polluted traffic interchange in Europe (!), Vauxhall was home to a number of organisations of national significance, including BT, Metropolitan Police, Cap Gemini, Government Communications Bureau and London Fire Authority. Among the programmes implemented by VEG and VRC were the refurbishment of a number of rail arches along the Albert Embankment, a series of safety measures around Vauxhall Cross, area signage and a business directory. Giles also worked with businesses to sponsor the education programme and community celebration at the 1999 Cricket World Cup at the Kennington Oval.
