To put together the programme for a prestigious annual built heritage conference
Timescale:

Project
Description:
The Means' Giles Semper first put together
his ‘Old Buildings' conference in 2001. It drew heavily on advice from Fred
Taggart, Chief Executive of the Prince's Regeneration Trust (then Regeneration
through Heritage). Five more conferences were to follow, all in prestigious
venues, several addressed by government ministers. The conferences were distinctive for going
beyond the concerns of the heritage ‘lobby' and including enlightened private
sector developers and their designers.
By 2008 Giles and Fred decided that ‘the case was made' for the creative re-use
of old buildings. At its sixth showing the conference was given a new slant,
concerning itself with issues of sustainability. Given that most of the
attention goes to sustainability in new build, rather than re-use, this was a
fairly radical proposal. However the 22nd May event was a resounding
success.
